Castello di Spessa, Friuli
Intense ruby color with refined and elegant aromas of plums, dried violets and vanilla followed by black fruits – cherries and currants, blueberry, tobacco, licorice and hints of eucalyptus and cinnamon. The palate follows the fashion of the nose, adding ripe, fine-grained tannins, a full figure and well balanced alcohol, and finishing long and juicy. Aged for 18 months in barrique.
The Castello di Spessa estate
This (now American-owned) Estate, famous for being Giacomo Casanova's Italian produces wines which are among the most richly hedonistic, and immediately seductive of the Collio region.
