Elena Walch, Trentino - Alto Adige
Vibrant and minerally with succulent, almost but not quite tropical-fruit character; more like sugared grapefruit, or cinnamon-sprinkled ripe melon. Reminiscent of a good Saint Veran, with its fresh, quartzy core.
The Elena Walch estate
One of the torch-bearing wine producers in Alto-Adige, Elena Walch collected tre bicchieri awards for both red and white wines in 2007, and her Gewurztraminer, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay continue to set high standards for the region. The Estate also has a wonderful restaurant in the heart of its Castel Ringberg vineyard, which is as good a place as any to taste the wines alongside local delicacies.
