La Giaretta, Veneto
50% Garganega (the primary grape in nearby Soave) shapes the wine's structure, 25% Sauvignon Blanc lends it acidity and bite, 25% Moscato provides an aromatic lift and elegance. Intense vanilla, honey and caramel aromas and flavours make this an excellent accompaniment to soft blue cheeses - gorgonzola piccante with crushed walnuts is one of my favourites.
The La Giaretta estate
Introduced to us at Vinitaly 2006, the wines from La Giaretta have rapidly established themselves as among the most popular of our portfolio. When tasting, the progression from the basic Valpolicella all the way through to the astonishing single vineyard Amarone Riserva offers a clearly linear relationship, the wines increasing in intensity, power and richness BUT maintaining a freshness of fruit expression throughout. The release of the Amarone 'I Quadretti' 2001 last September was greeted with a flurry of excitement by eager clients and critics acknowledging this as one of the greatest Amarone wines produced in decades.
