Trexenta, Sardinia
A classy barrique-aged Sardinian wine, from indigenous Cannonau with a little Cabernet. Tawny red with a broad nose of ripe wild berries, stewed prunes and vegetal notes of geranium and balsamic reduction. The palate maintains good structure and compact fruit but is soft and warm - redolent of a summer afternoon on the island.
The Trexenta estate
This co-operative, in the Cagliari province, produces good wines from the indigenous Vermentino and Cannonau and Carignano grapes. Continuing experiments with different blends have resulted in some vintage variation over the years, but the wines are always clean, ripe and fruit-driven.
