Trexenta, Sardinia
Produced by the famous Berta Distillery in Piedmonte, Trexenta's Grappa benefits from multiple oak ageing, giving it a complexity and smoothness which makes it at once extremely approachable for initiates and yet interesting for adepts, with its burnished dried apricot, vanilla and smoky, petrol tones.
The Trexenta estate
This co-operative, in the Cagliari province, produces good wines from the indigenous Vermentino and Cannonau and Carignano grapes. Continuing experiments with different blends have resulted in some vintage variation over the years, but the wines are always clean, ripe and fruit-driven.
